Pressrelease från Sauerland event:
***Nordic Fight Night: Viasat Sweden and Team Sauerland agree long-term partnership / TV10 to show Skoglund fights***
Viasat and Team Sauerland are delighted to announce they have struck a long-term partnership to further boost professional boxing in Sweden. In the next five years, Viasat Sweden will broadcast between five and seven Nordic Fight Nights per year from various venues across Denmark, featuring up-and-coming Swedish talent Erik Skoglund (7-0, 3 KOs), accomplished Danish superstars such as Mikkel Kessler (44-2, 33 KOs), Rudy Markussen (37-2, 24 KOs) and Mads Larsen (51-3, 38 KOs) as well as Norway´s “First Lady” Cecilia Braekhus (19-0, 5 KOs), amongst other gifted Scandinavian fighters. “This is a ground-breaking partnership that will lift professional boxing to the next level in Sweden,” promoter Kalle Sauerland said. “Erik Skoglund has got what it takes to be a world champion one day and thanks to TV10 all Swedish boxing fans can now closely follow his march up the rankings. On top of that, they get exciting action from the likes of Kessler, Markussen, Braekhus and Co.”
The partnership starts with the first Nordic Fight Night at Copenhagen´s Broendby Hall on February 18. Erik Skogund will be fighting against an opponent to be announced shortly, with Rudy Markussen taking on Brian Magee in a WBA Super-Middleweight World Championship (Interim).
“We are thrilled to be part of the Nordic Fight Nights,” said Per Tellander, Head of Viasat Sports Sweden. “These are exciting times for Swedish and Nordic boxing. Hopefully this will be the first step in the making of a new Swedish champion.”
Skoglund, 20, already proved his toughness last May when he defeated Volodymyr Borovskyy even though he had his jaw broken in three places. “The new partnership is fantastic news,” Skoglund said during the kick-off press conference at the Viasat studios in Copenhagen on Thursday afternoon. “This will really boost Swedish boxing. I am thrilled to be a part of the Nordic Fight Nights and I will work hard to be successful every time I step into the ring.”
Further to Kessler, Markussen and Larsen, the Danish line-up also features Reda Zam Zam (24-1, 11 KOs), IBF Youth Middleweight Champion Patrick Nielsen, (12-0, 6 KOs), his iron-fisted brother Micki Nielsen (2-0, 2 KOs) as well as amateur star Torben Keller (1-0). “Between them our Danes hold a fearsome record of 171 victories, 8 losses and 114 KOs,” promoter Nisse Sauerland said. “They have a KO ratio of almost 66 percent, which is as fascinating as it is intimidating. The boxing fans will see a lot of exciting fights as we match their stars against the best opponents out there.”
WBA/WBC/WBO Female Welterweight Champion Cecilia Braekhus will be representing Norway, among other fighters to be announced shortly. “The Nordic Fight Nights are a great concept,” three-time world champion Mikkel Kessler said. “There are a lot of thrilling bouts coming up.”
And Rudy Markussen added: “I will be kicking off the new partnership with a bang on February 18 in front of my home fans in Copenhagen. Magee´s title is the first to stay in Denmark and it certainly will not be the last looking at the exciting times that lie ahead.”
